CONDE D'ESPAGNE - THE COUNT OF SPAIN
Perhaps no one in the history of Spain has a person been so villified by those who hated him, or so praised and esteemed by kings, medals, awards and words of those who knew him. I present the condensed version below, so that if you are a descendant you will know where to find the truth. I have worked on my genealogy for about 15 years and fortunate enough in this age of computers to dig out the truth from semi-hidden history. I have had descendants of this family say this can't be and refuse to believe it. That's OK, I wanted truth not your approval, so now you go search instead of sitting back criticizing the truth when found. I worked for twenty years as an investigator and learned to not believe anyone, nor deny they may be right, but to search and find the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If you want proof of these people and your place in the chain, then do as I did and go to a good genealogist in Spain, then you can continue at your own ability to fill in the rest. Yes, I found the truth, but I shall let you do as I did and go pay for the paperwork.

A NOTE by Dolores who is a great, great, great, great, great niece of Carlos.
I ask you, was Carlos any different than you or I today? I grew up being partially raised by a paternal grandmother, plus other family members nearby and I can assure you if I was grown and found someone had come to our home, destroying and killing the little kids, torturing and slaying the women, and taking my grandmother out to a guillotine I would go after them with a vengenance also. I wouldn't stop until I had killed everyone involved or as many as I could.
This is the story you will find of Carlos. Once mild and loved by family, friends and most who knew him finds that while he has gone the enemy has come and destroyed his castle, torturing and killing the women and children, then taking his beloved grandfather that he adored and not only torturing him, but took him to the guillotine. I don't even want to think of the pain and anger that ensued but I am printing enough of his history to see him from his family's viewpoint.
